NVIDIA becomes 2nd most Valuable Company in the World but faces Anti Trust Scrutiny
NVIDA emerged as the second most Valuable company in the world surpassing Apple with 3 Trillion USD valuation. NVIDIA corps share price is currently trading at $1210 on Thursday. NVIDIA Corps share was trading at 630 USD in Feb and has doubled since then . The growth of the company has been due to the AI boom and the manufacturing of AI powered high performance chip. NVIDIA corp’s valuation is now only behind Microsoft which is the most valuable publicly traded company in the world with 3.15 Trillion USD and strongly chased by NVIDIA.
The Wall Street analysts credit the growth of NVIDIA to the AI band-wagon that is driving the current technology landscape and also its stellar sales numbers . Microsofts investment in Chat GPT designer Open AI and its generative AI capabilities displays that generative AI would be inextricably linked to Business growth for companies in the future and there is a strong demand for AI and AI based technology investments for companies in the future.
Apple is trailing behind in the AI race with its sales numbers and Iphone demands decreasing especially in China . Apples stock fell 0.7 percent on Thursday to 194 USD while NVIDIA overtook it in Market Capitalisation.
On the other hand the rise of NVIDIA is being subjected to severe anti trust scrutiny as it reached 1 Trillion in USD and is a dominant player in the AI and Chip manufacturing business. The Federal Trade Commission(FTC) is investigating the business practices of NVIDIA along with the other dominant market leader in AI based technology , Microsoft. One of the key investigation areas is the proposed 40 Billion USD acquisition of ARM which is a strong competitor to NVIDIA. FTC belives this could disrupt free market dynamics and give edge to NVIDIA as it would not have any other competitors in the Chip making industry.
Moreover , the regulatory bodies are looking into the Anti competition practices at NVIDIA especially during the period of Chip crisis. The allegation and scrutiny could impact NVIDIA with greater regulatory monitoring and restrictions in the future.
US Justice Department and the Federal Trade Comission have reached an agreement to look into the anti trust investigations and the concentration of the AI industries by Microsoft and NVIDIA with its potential anti competition strategies. The concerns by the regulatory bodies stems from the fact that big companies have access to large sets of training data used in AI and hence gains advantage over smaller companies working in the space and hence is driving its dominance.
